These easy fall leaf snickerdoodle cookies are GORGEOUS and absolutely delicious!Soft and chewy snickerdoodle recipe, perfect for Fall & Thanksgiving desserts! And, these delightfully soft and chewy fall leaf snickerdoodles are fun to make because they’re SO EASY – they’re almost fool proof as long as you follow these steps below.I have a feeling these soft & chewy snickerdoodles are going to be one of the most requested recipes of yours each fall from here on out! You’re going to take a pinch of each color – doesn’t necessarily have to be an even amount of each one – and start to form a dough ball like this:.Step 3: Roll the dough ball in your shallow bowl of cinnamon and sugar.Step 4: Gently press the dough ball onto the non-stick baking pan & repeat. If you use a large baking pan like I did, you’ll probably *almost* fill it up, but you may not get the dough all the way to the edges, and that’s totally fine.Let it cool for about 10 minutes (but not much longer than that) and then you’re ready to start cutting the leaf shapes out. You’re going to use that metal cookie cutter and start cutting leaf shapes out as close together as you can and then transferring them onto a cooling rack. You should be able to transfer them directly from the cookie cutter (I’m telling you, these non-stick baking pans are just miracle workers!), but if you need to use a spatula, just gently use it to lift up the cookie without disturbing the rest of the baked dough around it.You can sprinkle some extra cinnamon and sugar onto the icing if you’d like, or just leave it bare – whatever works for you. What a perfect dessert recipe to make for Thanksgiving or for a fall potluck gathering!Other brands of gel food coloring turn things pink rather than red.Make sure you don’t wait too long after the large cookie is out of the oven before you start cutting out the leaf shapes. .

Although calling it a snickerdoodle is a stretch in the eyes of a purist (these aren’t rolled in cinnamon and don’t include cream of tartar or baking soda), I couldn’t resist the whimsical name considering the similar ingredients and hint of cinnamony goodness.Perfect on their own (I couldn’t resist a taste or two three), or dressed up with royal icing, these cookies are simple to make and hold their shape well. This time it was only 3 batches of experimentation… adjustments to my sugar cookie recipe, with the addition of cinnamon and substitution of margarine. The key to these cookies keeping their shape lies not only in the combination of ingredients (exact measurement in baking is important) and omission of the leavening agent (i.e. baking powder), but in some crucial points in the process.

But, for a moment, we will forget the gifts and the cakes and the cookie plates and the decorating and the stress and focus on something that makes me happy: these snickerdoodle cut outs. So, when I knew I was going to develop some cut out cookies this Christmas, snickerdoodle immediately made the list (even before chocolate.A major taste component of snickerdoodles is the extra tang the cream of tartar gives them.It makes the dang cookies rise, which means they spread all over the place and you’re left holding something that looks more like a 50’s B movie than a reindeer. These cookies definitely work according to my criteria, which is “Do they still look like the thing I cut out?” but they have softer edges than others. No Chill Snickerdoodle Cut Out Cookies 2017-11-25 23:55:18 Yields 24 Write a review Save Recipe Print Prep Time 40 min Cook Time 10 min Total Time 50 min Prep Time 40 min Cook Time 10 min Total Time 50 min Cookies 1 cup butter or margarine 1 1/2 cups sugar 2 eggs 2 3/4 cups flour 1/2 tsp cream of tartar Topping 2 Tbsp sugar 2 tsp cinnamon Instructions Beat together butter, sugar, and eggs.Add flour and cream of tartar and mix until dough scrapes the sides of the bowl.Dip cookies in cinnamon sugar topping, then lay on a lined or greased baking sheet. .

Sharing all my tips and tricks for making delicious snickerdoodle cookies with chewy centers and perfectly crisp edges!Snickerdoodle Cookies.First things first: Snickerdoodles are sometimes confused with sugar cookies since they have a lot of the same basic ingredients. What’s the difference between a sugar cookie and a Snickerdoodle?Sugar cookies rarely have cream of tartar and don’t contain cinnamon.Butter : Use unsalted butter to ensure you perfectly control the amount of salt.White sugar.: for flavor!White all-purpose flour : Make sure to spoon and level this measurement so you’re getting the right amount of flour.: Make sure to this measurement so you’re getting the right amount of flour.Salt : To intensify all the ingredients’ flavors.Cinnamon: It’s added to the dough and the topping– for extra flavor!QUICK TIP What is cream of tartar, anyway?Well, melted butter adds an incredible texture to these snickerdoodle cookies. When you add that melted-but-cooled butter to a cookie recipe, chilling the dough is a MUST before baking. If the dough is baked immediately with melted butter in it, the cookies will spread while baking and become thin, hard, and crispy.Roll tall cookie dough balls: Instead of rolling a perfectly round ball, I’ve found if you roll the dough so it’s taller and skinnier, when the cookies bake you’ll get that perfect thick and chewy center AND the crisp edges. .

This is a little heart day twist on my favorite Snickerdoodle recipe, originally found at sallysbakingaddiction.com.Line two large cookie sheets with parchment paper or just grease them well with some Pam.Make the topping by tossing the red colored sugar with 1 teaspoon cinnamon in a small bowl.Get it nice and smooth, then add the sugar on medium speed until fluffy and light in color. In a medium size bowl, whisk together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, cinnamon and salt.(Optional extra step: If you are feeling ambitious or have really tapped into your inner domestic god/goddess, let the dough chill in the fridge for about 15 minutes.).To make heart-shaped cookies, slightly flatten the dough ball on the baking sheet. You can also use your index finger to indent the top of the cookie into a softer heart shape. It is better to undercook them slightly and let them finish on the cookie sheet than to overcook them because you weren’t paying attention. .

Drop-style snickerdoodle cookies are rolled in cinnamon sugar before baking; while they bake, they puff up and collapse, creating the distinctive crackled surface. As for the tangy flavor, that comes from cream of tartar. Some recipes instead use baking powder, which of course contains acid and alkaline ingredients mixed together. .

Check your baking soda and Cream of Tartar to make sure they're fresh. To test it, just put a tiny bit of the soda in some water. When I make this recipe, I usually pour off just a tiny bit of the egg white, because I like my cookies puffy.Rating: 5 stars HELPFUL TIPS: Bake for 8 min exactly!:) If your cookie turns out flat, I'd check to see if your baking soda has expired.Rating: 4 stars Yum--love snickerdoodles.I am only giving this recipe 4 stars because I do not like the acrid cream of tartar taste and the way the cookies completely flatten out (I like them puffier). For puffier cookies, I modified the recipe to use 2 tsps of baking powder instead of 2 tsps of cream of tartar, I roll the dough into 1.5" balls and bake the cookies at 375F for about 8 minutes.I also take the cookies off the baking sheet asap so they don't have time to heat up and lose their puffiness.Rating: 5 stars This is THE best recipe for making snickerdoodles!I've made it at least a dozen times, and I've learned a few things along the way: 1) For cookies that are crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, bake for only 8 mins.3) For a REALLY quick and mess-free method of rolling balls of dough in cinnamon/sugar mixture, place mixture in a sandwich baggie and drop one ball in at a time to coat.Rating: 5 stars these cookies are great.maybe this is something all you cooks know, but i'm still sixteen and i figured out that if you cream the butter and sugar with an electric mixture, you get a totally different result in texture then when you mix it by hand.Rating: 4 stars This is a great recipe.Another hint is to scoop out all the balls first then roll them in the sugar/cinnamon.When I mixed up the second batch of mixture, I substituted half of the cinnamon for powdered cardamom. Also, to the people who thought the cookies were too hard: when the cookies start to look cracked, but the dough still looks wet in the cracks, pull them out -- otherwise, the cookies get too hard. .
