A simple, incredibly flaky apple tart recipe made with all butter puff pastry, hints of cinnamon and sweet apricot jam.By the way, pre-rolled puff pastry comes wrapped in parchment paper; use it to line your sheet pan.Puff pastry is a flaky, delicate dough made from flour, butter, water and a pinch of salt.Think: Danishes, palmiers, baked brie and this insanely delicious ham & cheese puff pastry appetizer I make every Christmas. The process by which is made- rolling, folding and chilling the dough several times- requires time and patience to really achieve those crispy thin layers of goodness. We used to make puff pastry from scratch all the time in culinary school and the results were never “French bakery quality” no matter how hard we tried! For sanity’s sake, it’s perfectly fine to use good-quality puff pastry from the grocery store.Brush the crust section with egg wash for a light golden brown finish when baked.I lightly piled some of the apples towards the center (the boys kept wrecking my patterns), which is fine too. However, their ingredient list is a little too long for my liking and includes partially hydrogenated vegetable shortening and oil.*Whatever brand you choose, remember to defrost your dough overnight in the fridge, or for a few hours at room temperature before getting started. .

Loved the the pure, simple taste of baked apple.Only used ⅓ of the sugar mix with Pink Lady apples, and it was still delicious and suitable for breakfast.Prep time is only the few minutes it takes to peel and slice the apples.Realized last minute I had forgotten to buy the apricot jam, so used about 1 Tbsp hot maple syrup instead. This is probably the lowest effort desert with the highest payoff I I've ever made -- really delicious. This was an amazingly simple dish that brought rave reviews from everyone.I used my homemade apricot rosemary jam and the slight herbiness brought a lovely and unexpected complexity.Made it the first time w/ 2 apples & 1 plum, topped w/ homemade strawberry jelly and it was such a big hit that now I'm taking it to a friend's for Thanksgiving.Followed the tips about adding a squeeze of lemon and some extra cinnamon sugar before the apples.Made this with pears and it was lovely with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.I do make a few changes, such as I add 1/3 stick of butter and 4 tablespoons of sugar.I have 4 sitting on my bakers rack right now, and I have had to run my husband out of the kitchen to keep him from cutting into them. .

I followed the directions in the video about rolling the folded pastry, slicing off the edges with a pizza roller, and cutting a border.I added 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon per the advice of previous reviewers, plus 1 T flour and 1 T lemon juice, and let the apple mixture sit for a while in the fridge while I rolled the pastry.Rating: 4 stars Prep time took longer than 20 min.The Granny Smith Apples I used must have been larger because I piled them on but the ones on the top didn't get done.Rating: Unrated I made this tart yesterday, October 20.I will try drizzling a confectioner's sugar glaze over it when I make it for breakfast again.I add a dusting of flour on the pastry where the apples will go (to absorb some moisture) and after you cut the apples (i use gala) let them sit in a bowl with sugar and cinnamon for a bit.Rating: Unrated This was quick and easy but I doubt I'll make it again.I gauged that it was done from the browning on the under edges but the center was not cooked thoroughly at that point.Rating: Unrated I use Royal Gala Apples instead of Granny Smith.Rating: Unrated I would say to add some flour to the apples to help absorb some of that liquid.I also support adding some cinnamon or apple spices to spunk it up.Careful not to dot with butter where it may drip over the edge of the crust - that part won't rise. .
